Why I Shed Bikini for Niqab

The New Symbol of Women’s Liberation

I am an American woman who was born in the midst of America’s “Heartland.†I grew up, just like any other girl, being fixated with the glamour of life in “the big city.†Eventually, I moved to Florida and on to South Beach of Miami, a hotspot for those seeking the “glamorous life.†Naturally, I did what most average Western girls do. I focused on my appearance and appeal, basing my self-worth on how much attention I got from others. I worked out religiously and became a personal trainer, acquired an upscale waterfront residence, became a regular “exhibiting†beach-goer and was able to attain a “living-in-style†kind of life.

Years went by, only to realize that my scale of self-fulfillment and happiness slid down the more I progressed in my “feminine appeal.†I was a slave to fashion. I was a hostage to my looks.

As the gap continued to progressively widen between my self-fulfillment and lifestyle, I sought refuge in escapes from alcohol and parties to meditation, activism, and alternative religions, only to have the little gap widen to what seemed like a valley. I eventually realized it all was merely a pain killer rather than an effective remedy.

By now it was September 11, 2001. As I witnessed the ensuing barrage on Islam, Islamic values and culture, and the infamous declaration of the “new crusade,†I started to notice something called Islam. Up until that point, all I had associated with Islam was women covered in “tents,†wife beaters, harems, and a world of terrorism.

As a feminist libertarian, and an activist who was pursuing a better world for all, my path crossed with that of another activist who was already at the lead of indiscriminately furthering causes of reform and justice for all. I joined in the ongoing campaigns of my new mentor which included, at the time, election reform and civil rights, among others. Now my new activism was fundamentally different. Instead of “selectively†advocating justice only to some, I learned that ideals such as justice, freedom, and respect are meant to be and are essentially universal, and that own good and common good are not in conflict. For the first time, I knew what “all people are created equal†really means. But most importantly, I learned that it only takes faith to see the world as one and to see the unity in creation.

One day I came across a book that is negatively stereotyped in the West–The Holy Qur’an. I was first attracted by the style and approach of the Qur’an, and then intrigued by its outlook on existence, life, creation, and the relationship between Creator and creation. I found the Qur’an to be a very insightful address to heart and soul without the need for an interpreter or pastor.

Eventually I hit a moment of truth: my new-found self-fulfilling activism was nothing more than merely embracing a faith called Islam where I could li

Hadeeth about women uncovering their faces

سبتمبر 8th, 2008 كتبها الملتقي الجنة نشر في , What Is Islam?

How sound is that hadeeth in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is reported to have said, “When a woman reaches the ages of adolescence, nothing should be seen of her except her face and hands”? How should the Muslim woman dress, based on this? What if extreme hijab will cause problems for a woman in the society in which she lives?.

***
Praise be to Allaah.

The hadeeth mentioned in the question was narrated by Abu Dawood (4104) from al-Waleed from Sa’eed ibn Basheer from Qataadah from Khaalid ibn Durayk from ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her), that Asma’ bint Abi Bakr entered upon the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) wearing a thin dress. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) turned away from her and said, “O Asma’, when a woman reaches the age of puberty, nothing should be seen of her except this and this” – and he pointed to his face and hands.

Abu Dawood said: This is mursal; Khaalid ibn Durayk did not meet ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her).

This hadeeth is da’eef (weak) and is not fit to be used as evidence. The reasons why it is da’eef are as follows:

1 – Its isnaad is interrupted, as was stated by Imam Abu Dawood (may Allaah have mercy on him) when he said, “This is mursal; Khaalid ibn Durayk did not meet ‘Aa’ishah.”

2 – Its isnaad includes Sa’eed ibn Basheer al-Azdi (or it was said al-Basri) Abu ‘Abd al-Rahmaan. Some scholars of hadeeth regarded him as thiqah (trustworthy), but Ahmad, Ibn Ma’een, Ibn al-Madeeni, al-Nasaa’i, al-Haakim and Abu Dawood regarded him as da’eef. (weak).

Muhammad ibn ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Numayr said of him: His hadeeth is to be rejected and he does not amount to anything, and he is not strong in hadeeth. He narrated munkar reports from Qataad

What Does Anticipation Mean?

سبتمبر 3rd, 2008 كتبها الملتقي الجنة نشر في , What Is Islam?

What Does Anticipation Mean?

My beloved ones on the path of Allah,

Scholars have said that anticipation is: the initiative to seek reward and obtain it using different types of good actions, and doing them in the required manner in order to seek their reward.

In other words, anticipation is an intention to gain the fruits that are promised for a certain good deed, and this – naturally – is an action of the heart not the tongue, that leads the self to be keen, the heart to look forward to, and determination to seek the great rewards behind this good deed.

Allah has asked us to seek Paradise and to work for it. He says: And whoever desires the Hereafter and strives for it, with the necessary effort due for it while he is a believer, then such are the ones whose striving shall be appreciated, thanked and rewarded (by Allah).al-Isra 19

Therefore the striving which will be rewarded is the striving of he who desires the Hereafter.

He says: and whoever desires a reward in the Hereafter, We shall give him thereof. And We shall reward the grateful. [al-Imran 145]

Doing good deeds is promised to be granted great rewards in return, in order for the good servant to anticipate these rewards. In this way, the anticipation motivates us and drives us towards Allah, Exalted and Glorified is He.

My beloved brothers and sisters,

There are great benefits in anticipation, because it is:

(1) A form of compliance to the order of Allah and following His messenger (may peace and blessings be upon him.

(2) An evidence of good faith and perfect Islam.

(3) A path towards sincerity, away from hypocrisy; because one would not await thanking or appreciation from anyone in return for doing good deeds anymore.

(4) A sign of good trust in Allah.

(5) A way to make one satisfied, happy-hearted and confident in what the Lord is saving for His servants.

(6) A tool to purify the good deeds and add more blessing to them, so that one’s account of faith increases.

(7) A reason to strengthen one’s determination and charge one’s will.

(8) A method to increases one’s rank in the Eyes of his/her Lord. For the messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said to Saad bin Abi Waqqas, “Verily, any deed you do in which you sincerely seek Allah’s pleasure will raise you in ranks and honor.” [Bukhari]

(9) Finally, having anticipation all the time makes one’s life full of acts of worship, and worship is a wide path leading to the love of Allah.

(10) Through anticipation you will be granted rewards of deeds you couldn’t do for a legitimate excuse. The prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) said,”If a servant falls ill or travels temporarily, he will be rewarded exactly the same as what he used to do when he was healthy and residing in his town.”[Bukhari]

My friend,

The study of the intentions and _object_ives of good deeds is one of the most important things that should be addressed by any serious worker for the Hereafter.

It was reported that Yahya bin Abi Katheer said: “Learn your intentions; for they are more important than the deeds themselves.”

We have to learn how to evoke the right intentions for our good deeds; this processed requires training which can be done through readi

A Day In Ramadan: Faith and Anticipation

A Day In Ramadan: Faith and Anticipation

By sheikh Hany Hilmy

In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Most Merciful

PREFACE

Indeed all praise belongs to Allah, we praise Him, seek His aid and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our souls and evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allah guides there is none to misguide and whomsoever Allah misguides there is none to guide him. I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah without any partners and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.

O Allah send Your Mercy on Muhammad and his posterity as You sent Your mercy on Abraham and his posterity. You are the Most Praised, The Most Glorious. O Allah, send Your Blessings on Muhammad and his posterity as You have blessed Abraham and his posterity. You are the Most praised, The Most Glorious.

To proceed:

O beloved brothers and sisters,

The breezes of mercy have blown, the glad tidings have arrived with bonding to those who had been divided, amnesty to the guilty and the setting free to those who deserve the fire. What great glad tidings!

Who is more honorable than one whom was honored by Allah the Greatest, the Guardian? Who is more satisfied than one whom He exclusively ennobled? Who is closer to Him than one whom He selected for the greatest victory? What worry could one have after being commended by Allah the Wise, the Powerful, saying “Verily, the pious and righteous will be in Delight (paradise)” [Quran 82:13].

Satan has been chained, Fire has been put out, and the command of desires has been sent into the exile.

There are no excuses left for the wrong-doers.

O clouds of remissness on the hearts heave! O suns of piety and faith rise!

O records of deeds of the fasting ascend! O hearts of the fasting ones worship in humbleness and humility! O feet of the praying ones in the night kneel to thy Lord and prostrate! O eyes of the hard workers do not fall to sleep! O land of desires swallow your water, and O sky of selfishness withhold your rain!

O wills of the loving ones do not be satisfied with anything but Allah!

For on these days, the table spread has been extended for the fasting ones, such that nobody is left uninvited: “O our people! Respond (with obedience) to Allah’s Caller. [Quran 46:31]

O wills of the believers respond with haste. Blessings be to whomever responds righteously, and woe to those who were expelled from the gate and were banished.

O beloved brothers and sisters …

The messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever establishes the prayers on the night of Qadr with (sincere) faith and anticipation (for Allah’s rewards) then all his past sins shall be forgiven. Whoever fasts Ramadan with faith and anticipation, then all his past sins shall be forgiven. [Bukhari and Muslim]

He also said (may peace and blessings be upon him) …and whoever establishes the prayer on the night of Qadr with sincere faith and anticipation, then all his past sins shall be forgiven. [Bukhari and Muslim]
Whenever Ramadan welcomes us, I am halted by the condition of faith and anticipation my thirst for understanding was never quenched by what I read in the books of interpretation. So I began collecting all the hadeeths in which anticipation

was mentioned, and it drew my attention more to find out that the prophet (may peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned it whenever a great deed or reward was brought up:

Like Jihad, for example, the struggle in the cause of Allah. It has been narrated on the authority o Abu Qatadah that the Messenger of Allah ( may peace and blessings be upon him) stood up among them (companions) to deliver his sermon in which he told them that Jihad in the cause of Allah and belief in Allah are the most meritorious of deeds. A man stood up and said: “Messenger of Allah, do you think that if I am killed in the cause of Allah, my sins will be blotted out from me?” The Messenger of Allah (may peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Yes, in case you are killed in the cause of Allah and you were patient and anticipating (for Allah’s reward) and y

Sister UmmYasmin Proper Hijaab Story

Salaam Alaikum

How did I come wearing proper hijaab? Well first of all, I came Muslima 4 years ago,I live in Finland, Here in Finland we have 25 000 Muslims.

I was born in Jehovah witness family and raised as one, until I made my own choose and came atheist (I was then around 11 years). My mother send me to reform school and I stayed there until I found my husband and married him.

So, shortly I got interested about Islam and came Muslima in very short time . First I started to wear hijaab,it was not easy for me,and I think that I did not understand meaning of hijaab very well that time,so I had times when I did not wear it and then I had times when I wore it. I felt shame when I did not wear it and my husband was also angry with me,because it is not right to go up and down . He said I have to make up my mind, but it took very long time..

So finally started to wear hijaab all the time and I came to that point that I said to my self, that I will never take it off anymore, but it happened again, that after I was in Bangladesh, I gave up from my hijaab again. I started to make up and so on , And sure my husband was very upset And my mind was very confused also.

Now I am sure that it was Shaytaan who made me that way and I was weak for his whispers,Astaghfirullaah.

And then I started all over again, I studied about hijaab and Islam , also my deen came more stronger , again I started to wear hijaab, now I pray Allah that He will keep me from my hair and wont let me loose again like it was a year ago.

And then I started to study

Will Allaah punish women who make a wanton display of their beauty (tabarruj)?

يونيو 20th, 2008 كتبها الملتقي الجنة نشر في , What Is Islam?

Will Allaah punish women who make a wanton display of their beauty (tabarruj)?

Question:

My question is about the grave sinners, we believe that his/her matter is up to Allah, if Allah wills He will punish or forgive them. But the hadeeth in which the prophet, peace be upon him says: “there are two types of people I have not seen, (until he mentions), and women who are clothed yet naked, they will not enter paradise or even smell its fragrance” this hadeeth was explained by imam an-nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, as follows:
If they do what they do believing it is not haram, then they will never enter paradise. Or they may be punished in hell first then they will enter paradise.
This means they will definitely be punished first and they are of evil doers, is it possible that they might not be punished?.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

According to Muslim belief, the one who commits a major sin is in grave danger and has exposed himself to the punishment of Allaah, but the will of Allaah is to decide, and Allaah may forgive or pardon him, or He may punish him in a manner commensurate with his sin, except for the one whose sin reaches the level of disbelief in Allaah. In that case he will deserve to be punished and to abide forever in Hell.

Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah was asked – as it says in Majmoo’ al-Fataawa (11/646) – about women who pile their hair on top of their heads, and they will not see Paradise or smell its fragrance. But it is narrated in the hadeeth from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “Whoever says La ilaaha ill-Allaah will enter Paradise.”

He replied:

It is proven in Saheeh Muslim and elsewhere from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “There are two types of the people of Hell whom I have not seen: men with whips like the tails of cattle with which they strike the people, and women who are clothed but naked, walking with an enticing gait, with something like the humps of camels on their heads. They will not enter Paradise nor even smell its fragrance, and its fragrance can be smelled from such and such a distance.”

Whoever claims that this hadeeth is not saheeh and that what it mentions of the severe punishment is not true is ignorant and has gone astray from the path of sharee’ah, and he deserves a punishment that will deter him and other ignorant people like him who object to the saheeh ahaadeeth that are soundly narrated from the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him).

There are many saheeh ahaadeeth about this warning. For example:

“Whoever kills a mu’aahid unlawfully will not smell the fragrance of Paradise, although its fragrance may be detected from a distance of forty years.”

“No one will enter Paradise in whose heart is a mustard seed’s worth of arrogance.”

“There are three to whom Allaah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will He praise them, and their will be a painful torment: an old man who commits zina, a king who tells lies and a poor man who is arrogant.”

There are verses in the Qur’aan which speak of this warning, such as the verse in which Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And whosoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم), and transgresses His limits, He will cast him into the Fire, to abide therein; and he shall have a disgraceful torment”

[al-Nisa’ 4:14]

This is something on which the Muslims are agreed, that the warning in the Qur’aan and Sunnah to those who commit major sins is true, but Allaah has stated in the Qur’aan and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) that the warning mentioned in the Qur’aan and Sunnah does not apply to the one who repents, as He says (interpretation of the meaning): “Say: O ‘Ibaadi (My slaves) who have transgressed against themselves (by committing evil deeds and sins)! Despair not of the Mercy of Allaah, verily, Allaah forgives all sins. Truly

Stories of women who became Muslim and left their kaafir husbands

Stories of women who became Muslim and left their kaafir husbands

Question:

I know that Muslim women are not allowed in Islam to marry non-Muslim men; there is a sister on a converts list who recently became Muslim and who was asking what to do regarding her non-Muslim husband who accepted her conversion without any problems and who also lets her educate the children the Islamic way. However, when she asked for an advice, most of us told her that the husband has to take shahada or she should not remained married to him otherwise. Unfortunately, some other people don’t believe so and advised her the opposite way, that she just should remain with the husband and so on,…. I would like you to send me concrete cases at the time of the Prophet (SAW) where Muslim women (sahabyate) would leave their non-Muslim husbands if those decided not to convert. I think those cases would be the only proof to convince the people of that list that Muslim women are not allowed to marry or remain married to non-Muslims men even though they are not against the woman’s conversion.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

What you have said in your question about it being haraam for a Muslim woman to marry a kaafir man is correct, and there is no doubt concerning that.

  • Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And give not (your daughters) in marriage to Al-Mushrikoon till they believe” [al-Baqarah 2:221]

    Al-Qurtubi said:

“ ‘And give not (your daughters) in marriage’ means, do not give Muslim women in marriage to Mushrik men. The ummah is agreed that a Mushrik should not marry a Muslim woman because this is like putting Islam in an inferior position. (Tafseer al-Qurtubi, 3/72).

  • Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“They are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them” [al-Mumtahanah 60:10]

Al-Bukhaari (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

Chapter: when a mushrik or Christian woman who is married to a dhimmi (non-Muslim living under Muslim rule) or a harbi (non-Muslim belonging to a people who are hostile towards Islam) becomes Muslim. ‘Abd al-Waarith said, narrating from Khaalid from ‘Ikrimah from Ibn ‘Abbaas: if a Christian woman becomes Muslim shortly before her husband, she is forbidden for him… Mujaahid said: if he becomes Muslim

Did Jesus come back down to earth after he was taken up, or not?

أبريل 3rd, 2008 كتبها الملتقي الجنة نشر في , What Is Islam?

Did Jesus come back down to earth after he was taken up, or not?

Question:
I have a Question to ask concerning Jesus (peace be upon him). Did Jesus (peace be upon him) was ascended twice to Allah? cause i have read in some books that it mentions Jesus (peace be upon him) ascending to the skies and them later was brought down to comfort his mother and tell the jews of something and then he left. is this true?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted, tells us that Jesus (upon whom be peace) was raised up to heaven just one time, in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“But Allaah raised him up (with his body and soul) unto Himself…” [al-Nisa’ 4:158]

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And (remember) when Allaah said: ‘O Eesa (Jesus)! I will take you and raise you to Myself and clear you [of the forged statement that ‘Eesa (Jesus) is Allaah’s son] of those who disbelieve, and I will make those who follow you (monotheists, who worship none but Allaah) superior to those who disbelieve [in the oneness of Allaah, or disbelieve in some of His Messengers, or in His Holy Books] till the Day of Resurrection. Then you will return to Me and I will judge between you in the matters in which you used to dispute.”[Aal ‘Imraan 3:55]

Ibn Jareer, may Allaah have mercy on him, explained that the word “mutawaffeeka[which usually refers to death and is translated here as “raise” – Translator] refers to his being taken up, but most of the scholars said that the meaning here is sleep, as Allaah says elsewhere in the Qur’aan (interpretation of the meaning):

“It is He, Who takes your souls [yatawaffaakum] by night (when you are asleep)…”[al-An’aam 6:60]

“It is Allaah Who takes away [yatawaffaa] the souls at the time of their death, and those that die not during their sleep…”[al-Zumar 39:42]

When he got up from sleeping, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would say, “Al-hamdu Lillaah illadhi ahyaanaa ba’da maa amaatanaa wa ilayh il-nushoor (Praise be to Allaah Who has brought us back to life after caus
